In my master’s thesis I investigated the relation between social networks and social capital and individual health.

PhD-project
Since the mid- to late-nineteenth century individuals’ occupational careers are assumed to have become more successful. This was a period of tremendous social and economic change, rapid industrialization and continued urbanization. At the same time, modern transport, communication and meritocratization were spreading rapidly. These processes are assumed to have caused major changes in individual social mobility outcomes. However, the micro and macro influences on individuals’ careers haven’t been clearly specified nor understood, especially in a long term perspective.
I study the effects of individual career factors and regional level modernization processes on individual career success in Dutch municipalities in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
